We offer a full service from start to finish, we will take your brief, help with design through to installation and maintenance. One of critical factors with Victorian Floor Installations, is correctly proportioning your floor, the overall aesthetic appearance of your floor can be very different dependent on various patterns, also not only the types of border, but also the different methods of laying borders, from traditional to modern installations. It is important to take into account the area where tiles are to be fitted, the pattern and border sizes, we offer our wealth of experience to ensure the finish is balanced for the specifications.
Choose your pattern/field tiles and/or your border and we will advise an installation that suits your area and budget. We can also provide you with a detailed design service so you may see your floor before installation, followed by complete installation. Leaving you with complete peace of mind your project is taken care of from start to finish.

The Victorian Floor and Tile Company
At Victorian Floor and Tile Company, we have developed a passion for these Victorian floors, the satisfaction to be able to produce floors that were installed over 100 years ago is simply unrivalled, whilst we respect techniques, traditions and history, we are constantly striving to push boundaries with modern equipment and materials that simply wasn't available, Traditionally Field tiles were laid on wet cement bases, starting from the centre, then working outwards to the border. The border was then fitted around the edges of the field pattern, then doorways were filled up with left over border tiles, if you were higher class the doorways would have had a more decorative or ornate border fitted, and again what was left over was used to fill the voids and basically patched in, giving these floors a truly unique one off design.
Modern vs traditional borders
Traditional Borders
Traditional Borders are always fit after the field tiles have been fitted, the issues this causes is the "doubling up" of pieces in corners, or half cut tiles in the middle of border runs, while we are more than happy to fit traditionally with doubled up and doctored borders, our clients have the choice between these options. As you will see in photo, the "doubled up" border piece in the corner.
Our Modern Approach to Borders
We can fit our borders seamless or unbroken so they encase the entire pattern, the borders are centred, and fit perfectly symmetrical allowing the field to be fitted in a "perfect" border, after this, we hand cut and polish field tiles to give them back there factory finished edges.
Pushing Border Boundaries
We are constantly pushing boundaries, to see what is possible, our passion for these floors constantly drives us to find new ways to push forward, whilst respecting tradition, we can now offer hand made curves to suit any area, whilst still maintaining our "seamless borders" It is our hope in a further 100 or so years that someone will appreciate our techniques, then push our boundaries.

We offer a full Quantity control service, giving you the freedom to know all tiles provided will be calculated accordingly and allowing correct wastage for your project. Along side this, we offer help with our 20 years in the industry with designs that will work with your area, we can help with scaling patterns and borders ensuring proportions are kept and the overall aesthetics are not compromised.

The fastest way for us to get you a quotation is to send us a few simple details via our inquiry form. Draw a rough plan of you desired area, and measure around the perimeter giving a measurement in CENTIMETERS for each length of wall. This in most cases is enough to obtain an accurate quotation
Typical Hallway Layouts
Square or Rectangle
With square or rectangle areas, we only require the length and width of an area to calculate field tiles and border/filler tiles
T Shaped or Offset
We will require a measurement around the perimeter of the entire area to calculate an accurate quotation
Typical Hallway Layouts
This is a popular layout for a lot of Victorian Terrace houses, occasionally they have a 45 degree bend, sometimes it can be curved, these hallways need to be measured around the perimeter
L Shaped Hallways
LShaped hallways we would require a measurement of every flat wall around the perimeter as in image.

Field/Pattern Tiles & Borders
Once we have a plan of your area, the next step is what tiles you would like, you may attach screenshots of floors you have seen or gained inspiration from, or let us know the name of the Field/Pattern Tile along with the border, (these names of patterns and Borders all can be found in the Victorian Brochure in our brochure page)
Substrate Installation
Attach pictures or a brief description of the area to be tiled, generally this will be concrete or timber. If you require any assistance please contact us
